Job Description - Technical
Inspector
Position Objective:
To become an extension of
our customer’s operation and maintenance departments and to insure expenses
are controlled by providing quality services through joint inspections, post
inspections, and directing repairs on International and Domestic Intermodal
Transportation Equipment.
Principle
Responsibilities:
To conduct off-hire,
on-hire, in-service, and new production surveys on dry cargo, refrigerated
and tank marine containers, as well as, chassis, over-the-road generators
and trailers to AAR, IICL, and other agreed industry standards.
- This includes noting the
condition of equipment, as well as, writing and/or adjusting repair
estimates to reflect customer agreed labor times and material costs for
the repair of damages and maintenance requirements. To ensure that
equipment conforms to accepted safety criteria and to reject unsound
equipment for service.
- Issue Purchase Orders to
vendor for work to be performed and provide PO information to IDCS.
- To be familiar with domestic
and international rules and regulations affecting the use and movement
of intermodal equipment, and to be aware of all required safety rules
and regulations for the conduct of inspection responsibilities.
- To be familiar with the proper
methods to repair and refurbish intermodal equipment, utilizing the
required tools and instruments to complete proper inspections.
- Have a current knowledge of
all loading and unloading procedures from and to railcars and report any
unsafe conditions that may lead to injury or damage to equipment.
- To promptly respond to
customers’ requests and report the results of inspections in a timely
manner. The preparation of neat and accurate paperwork, adherence to
customer requirements in conformity with company inspection procedures.
- Safely operate a vehicle and
abide by all rules and regulations of ISS, Customers and State.
- Ability to grade equipment
based on the amount of time needed to repair specific trailer/container
components.
- Must be functional in basic
computer skills, i.e., Excel, Word, e-mail, etc.
- Have ability to create
reports, input data and send to appropriate parties via e-mail and fax.

Minimum
Requirements:
One-year recent
Transportation Industry experiences (equipment surveying, repair shop
estimate, Intermodal operations, etc.), valid Driver’s License.
Physical
Requirements:
- Must be able to do extensive
walking, some on uneven services
- Must be able to lift a ladder
(as needed)
- Must be able to climb in and
out of intermodal equipment (includes containers & trailers, which are
approximately 4 feet off the ground), using the 3 point method (2 hands,
one foot OR two feet, one hand)
- Must be able to check under
intermodal equipment as needed
- Must be able to drive an ISS
vehicle safely
